I stumbled across this video at mrbrown.com. I thought this might be of some interest as we look into the different perspectives of this world. The video features an autistic lady who does not speak. She communicates in our language through a voice synthesizer, typing at 120 words per minute.

She provides an insight into being 'caught in the world of their own' and how her language differs from ours. She shows how the difference in her language and our inability to comprehend it makes us judge her.

This video is an interesting and complex insight into what communication and languages can be in a different perspective.

What is Knowledge?

Knowledge in a nut shell is a word thrown around everywhere, used as a way of displaying a aura of 'intellect' when used like when some one says: "Knowledge is Power!", and everyone else goes: "Wow, he's smart."

The term 'Knowledge' seems to take on this strange meaning, so close, so obvious, yet something not in reach of our human intellect. It is said that the worst thing that may ever happen is the conclusion that knowledge never amounts to anything since there is no true definition to it.

To me, as long as knowledge exist as 'Knowledge', it does not exist. What do I mean? Knowledge is something so complex that the expression of it in the word 'Knowledge' makes it bounded by limits. In the short essay that follows, I will string together some of my views on why knowledge can never be knowledge, note that I do not intend to define 'Knowledge' in this essay.

Knowledge is a word, no doubt; then again, knowledge is power, not really a word. You see the simple expression of knowledge in the English language chains it down to a set of limits where 'Knowledge' is easily disputed. As seen in all our classes so far, we are unable to clearly say that something, anything, is a form of knowledge.

A limit of language that binds 'Knowledge' is the need for a definition, which shockingly is in a language as well.

Define 'Knowledge'. Dictionary.com defines it as "acquaintance with facts, truths, or principles, as from study or investigation; general erudition". Acquaintance with facts? Truths? Is an 'Acquaintance' enough to define knowledge? I guess not. Thus, my point that as long as knowledge exist as 'Knowledge', it does not exist.

Above the language factor, knowledge is suffocated by the extent of the human imagination. The strive for knowledge is the acquisition of konwledge from anything in this universe.

Now, take a deep breath and close your eyes, not literally because you will not be able to read what I'm typing, but allow your mind to be open and free. Now picture yourself sitting in front of your computer, or whatever media device, reading this post. Now zoom out and, hey, you see your surroundings, now zoom out a little more, there's Singapore. Now let's take this a little further, zoom out, and now you see the Earth, the only place we have ever thought life might exist. A little further, you see the solar system, a little more, the milky way. Ok, lets go all the way, now zoom out all the way, you see the edge of the universe... Or do you? Where is the edge?

The mere fact that our human minds cannot even capture the infinity of 'the Universe' renders our strive invalid because we do not even know the premise in which we are seeking our knowledge.

Knowledge can never exist as 'Knowledge'. Knowledge is just a representation of what True Knowledge is. Yet can we ever define True Knowledge. Perhaps not, at least not in the context of human kind. Our being blocks us from ever being able to define True Knowledge.

Can knowledge ever exist? Yes indeed, do not get me wrong. Knowledge will exist in our minds as a pseudo form of a truth, something more than words can express, something you might not even know if it was correctly defined, something you might, strangely, not even know you know.

Knowledge exists, just not as 'Knowledge'.
